The Blizzard

Books coming soon

Imagine being in the middle of the woods. Under your steps the wood cracks insistently. Thi sound is your only and constant partner in this lonely residence. It’s winter and looking out of the window you see the snow falling in flakes, driven by the wind chill that is constantly trying to penetrate from the cracks of the planks of wood. You can’t and you don’t want to get out of here, a warm and comfortable place which separates you from the unknown of the hostile forest. At night you take shelter under some heavy wool blankets, listening to the demons that scratch with their rotten nails the doorstep of the house. They’d like to come in to drag you away, howling and jumping ‘til the heart of the forest, to maul you in the snow.
Observing the storm that rages around you from time to time you think that maybe they are just cold and that they’d like you to share with them the warm hug of the chimney’s flames, that in exchange of some wood dances in your honour a choreography made by thousands of burning sparkles. Upstairs, next to the bedroom, there is a library. Why don’t you read something, while you wait for this snowstorm and these frozen hawlings to leave their place to Spring? You pull out a random book from a top oaken shelf and you bring it downstairs.

You sit down on a comfy sofa, next to the window. On the windowsill lies a cup of hot chocolate, that releases a sweet but slightly spiced scent. Next to the cup, lies a plate with a handful of flagrant cookies and a beeswax candle, which lights up your face with a warm flickering light. The tome has got a heavy reddish leather cover. You scroll casually the pale pages in yellowed paper, scented of fine dust and spruce resin. The book has been handwritten with a beautiful calligraphy and its riddled by meticulous drawings.

You give a look to the woods outside the window one more time. The snow falls hard, persistent. Among the trees that surrounds the wood cottage there are two birches. Between the birches lies a demon crouched down, that observes you with his yellow and narrow-minded eyes. You smile at his sight. You know he can’t reach you on your comfortable couch. You open the book on the first page and you read a big inscription with net letters.

Underneath, a billowing signature.

You make yourself more comfortable and take a sip of your chocolate, that flows delightfully down your throat making you remember the scent of home. You start reading.

Dear traveller of mine, it’s a pleasure to have you here with me. You may wonder where you are or what is the Fabularum Narrator… You are inside my mind. A human head crowded with lots of creatures longing to being able to tell their own lives. It’s difficult to give them a place to live in, building it only with ink lines.
I’ll help myself with words, sentences and stories then. You’ll be able to read the goings-on of my characters collected here. You’ll find long and complex tales or simple drafts, incomplete fragments of their adventures, in which you’ll have to find yourself the references to the rest of this world. Reading their stories you’ll give these creations of mine the possibility to enter your imagination, coming finally to life. Coming other times in this place you’ll see growing an entire world, leaf after leaf, until when, someday, you’ll be asked to take part yourself to its fate.. but everything at its time. I encourage you to take another sip of chocolate and to enjoy the book you keep in your hands, at the moment. You can come back any time you want, this welcoming house will exist forever.

And remember: winter out of here is very long.

Bufera

Libri in arrivo prossimamente

Cominci a leggere.

Sei all’interno della mia mente.
